My inspiration as an artist comes from both nature and the courage of my former elementary art students. I learned so much from their creativity when I would reassure them to take risks and not worry about the outcome. In return, they painted without any inhibitions, which is inspiring to watch and helped me grow as an artist.
When I create, I strive to evoke emotion, perhaps spark a memory or bring tranquility to a space. Many of my pieces reflect nature because I am drawn to its unpredictability, the organic lines and the consistent changing elements. In order to reflect what I see in nature, I use salt to help create movement and texture. Many of my pieces include a reflection or horizon line because I am drawn to the place where land or water meet the sky. It reminds me of how important it is for me to stay grounded in the world we live in today.
